Factors to Consider when Designing and Installing Your Sign
Here at MRC Signs, we pride ourselves on really knowing our product. We’re constantly training and updating our employees on the newest technology, materials and installation techniques to ensure the attractiveness and longevity of your sign. However, there’s much more to the sign-making process than simply creating and erecting a large, clear advertisement for your business. Many factors go into the process, all of which need to be carefully considered in order to optimize the potential your sign has to attract and guide customers to your business. We’ve laid out a few of the most important considerations a business should take (and that we’re more than happy to help you with) when it comes to installing a sign.
Figure out your Font
The font (also known as “typeface”) you use in your sign says more about your business than possibly any other design element that goes into it. That’s why it’s crucial to choose a font that both appropriately reflects your business’ aim, and is clear and visible from both close up and a distance. Fonts are susceptible to aging, so it’s important to consider how a font is regarded by the world. For example, while in recent years Comic Sans has become a font associated with a lack of professionalism, Helvetica has become a popular, hip choice for a variety of different businesses. While both are clear, easy to read and recognizable, many design agencies would steer a company away from using Comic Sans in their signage.
Make Sure Your Sign is Appropriately Sized and Clearly Visible
This one may seem obvious, but you’d be surprised how many signs we’ve encountered that could benefit from better lighting, better placement or overall better design. An effective sign will contain clear wording, good height placement (which depends on your target audience; walking traffic is different than auto traffic, for example), and be lit in a manner that makes it clearly visible at night, if applicable to the business. Indoor signs should be the right size for the product they are bringing attention to; a huge sign over a tiny feature can look strange, and a small sign next to a large product will be ineffective.
As well, different color combinations will provide for better visibility in varying situations. Light text on a very dark sign has actually been proven to be more visible to night traffic than dark text on a light sign!
Choose a Clear Graphic
Working with the graphic design department at MRC Signs can help you to ensure that your insignia or image will work correctly with the type of sign you’ve chosen. As an example, a very “busy” company logo may cause consumers to squint and not fully comprehend what they’re looking at from afar, which can cause confusion. Clear, easily-read but unique logos are the best choice for your sign, and our experts can help you with the best way to format your company’s logo.
As you may be able to tell, choosing a sign for your business is a fairly involved process, with many different factors that need to be considered in order to land the most effective signing possible. The experts at MRC Signs are well-versed in this arena; let us provide you with quality, dependable service without an extravagant price tag.
