The Sign Industry Is the Place to Be
We’ve been in the sign business for quite a while, so we’ve had the time to see all kinds of things. What has always been clear, though, is that it’s a growing industry that has not only maintained but increased its importance. We’ve blogged about the reasons why we think signage is so important before, but this month we have exciting news in the form of a recent survey published by the International Sign Association: on average, there’s been noticeable growth in both salaries and job openings in the sign industry.
475 sign and visual communications companies participated in this survey that concluded an impressive 5.5% wage increase for hourly employees and 5.1% for salaried administrative/operational employees during 2015. The study predicts similar pay rises for 2016, which speaks well of the healthy situation in the industry, both with regards to the demand for the products as well as treatment of employees. As one of the leading sign companies in Bucks County, both of those aspects are of course priorities to us and we are thrilled to hear that things are moving in the right direction on all fronts.
In addition, an impressive 55.8% of those surveyed said that they are planning to hire more employees in the second half of 2015 (from July to December). We think this is both a reflection of ever increasing demand for signage products as business owners become more and more aware of their benefits, but also speaks of the more complicated and comprehensive nature of signage installation today. We at MRC Signs, for example, don’t just install a sign. We deal with everything from the graphic design of the sign to lighting it in energy-efficient ways. All of that takes a lot of different kinds of expertise and enough staff to make sure we can meet all of our customers’ needs promptly and efficiently.
It’s also interesting to note that, according to the study, smaller companies have given more and bigger pay rises to their employees than the largest companies. We think that’s another good reason for you to consider a smaller business that will take your signage needs to heart and employs staff who are treated well and motivated to do a good job.
