Monument & Pylon Signs
Need customers to find you before they reach the door?
A freestanding sign at the road is often the first thing people see. Monument signs sit low to the ground and give your property a solid, permanent presence. Pylon signs stand tall so drivers can spot you from a distance and list multiple tenants in one place.
MRC Signs designs, permits, builds and installs both, along with the electrical work to light them. Dealerships, offices, schools, churches, shopping centers and retail properties across the region count on us for signs that look sharp and hold up for years.

Monument Signs
Monument signs are freestanding signs mounted on a low base, usually near the entrance to your property. They’re a natural fit for office parks, medical buildings, car dealerships, schools, churches and community entrances.
We build them in a range of styles: aluminum cabinets with push-through or routed lettering, internally lit faces, external lighting, and bases finished in stone, brick or stucco to match your building. We can also add an LED message center so you can change your message any time.
Pylon Signs
Pylon signs are tall, pole-mounted signs designed to be seen from busy roads and highways. Shopping centers use them to list every tenant; gas stations, hotels, restaurants and retailers use them to catch drivers early enough to turn in.
Already have a pylon? We can replace tenant panels when a new business moves in, reface a faded sign, or convert old lighting to LEDs, often for much less than a new sign.
Engineered and Permitted the Right Way
Freestanding signs need careful planning: zoning setbacks, height limits, wind loads, footings and underground power. We handle the drawings, engineering and township permit process, and coordinate the electrical so your sign is safe, compliant and built to last.
How a Monument or Pylon Project Works
- Site review. We look at the location, sight lines from the road and local zoning rules.
- Design and proof. You approve a rendering showing size, materials and lighting.
- Permits and engineering. We prepare the drawings and handle approvals.
- Fabrication and installation. We build the sign, set the footing and base, install and wire it.
- Service. When a light goes out or a tenant changes, we’re a call away.
Monument & Pylon Sign FAQs
Do I need a permit for a monument or pylon sign?
Almost always. Freestanding signs are regulated by local zoning for size, height and placement. We take care of the permit process for you.
Can you add a digital message board?
Yes. LED message centers can be built into a new monument or pylon, or added to many existing signs.
Can you update just the tenant panels?
Yes. Panel replacement is one of the most common pylon jobs we do, and it’s a fast way to keep a shopping center sign current.
How much does a monument sign cost?
It depends on size, materials, lighting and site work. We’ll give you a free, detailed quote after reviewing your site.
